25+ cheap/free things to do in northern utah!!

I absolutely love living in Utah. Beautiful mountains and lakes are minutes away, but so is the big city and cool restaurants! The only thing missing is the beach, but you can still surf at Flowrider in Ogden;) This post is full of a lot of super cheap and free things to do in Northern Utah, particularly for teens. I plan to update this list with more ideas so go ahead and leave a comment on my Instagram so i can add them!

FREE

Downtown:

Downtown salt lake has so many cool shops and yummy restaurants. Recently my friends and i spontaneously drove down. We ate at city creek, walked the streets (in the rain haha), visited cool shops and stopped at gateway. It was so much fun and could be completely free.

City Creek:

With so many shops and restaurants you could wander for hours and that's what we did! We window shopped and enjoyed the site seeing of downtown.

Gateway:

Gateway is a collection of stores and restaurants very similar to City Creek.

Planetarium:

Located by the Gateway parking garage is the Planetarium. The planetarium is kind of small but free, unless you want to watch a movie. We spent about an hour there looking at and playing at the exhibits.

Library:

I don't love reading but when we were downtown we walked through 2 old bookstores, it was so fun to explore the huge shops and look through interesting books.

High School Musical school:

if you didn't know that the school High School Musical was filmed in is located in SLC do you even live in utah?;) Visit East High in SLC where they have maps with every scene from the movie, including the pink famous pink locker! Just make sure to visit after school hours and check their school website for details of when you can visit.

Ensign Peak:

Ensign Peak is a small hike to a view of Salt Lake. I have not yet done this hike but it is at the top of my bucket list. Hike:

Utah has so many beautiful hikes, from intense and long hikes, to small nature walks there is something for everyone. I google hikes near me and there are always so many. With it warming up there are so many options! Some of my favorites are Adams Canyon, Bonneville Shoreline, and Fifth Water.

Fifth Water Hot Springs:

Located in American Fork, the five mile hike leads to bright blue natural hot springs and a waterfall. The drive, hike and hot springs were beautiful!

Fishing:

There are so many beautiful lakes and rivers to fish on in Utah. All you need is a pole and a license!

CHEAP ($5-10)

Flynns Retrocade ($5):

Flynns Retrocade in Roy has all your favorite old school games. Pay only $5 for an hour of unlimited games.

Bowling:

Bowling can be so much fun and there are so many places where you can bowl for cheap. Get a group of friends and see who can bowl the best, the most creative, or the funniest!

Swimming:

There are tons of fun places to swim that are cheap but also consider swimming in a friends pool or even at a lake to make this activity free!

Mini golf:

Mini golf is super similar to bowling. Get creative and make it super fun!

Roller Skating: Roller Skating is super fun no matter how bad you are haha, Classic has skate nights for teens too, so check their website for deals!

Ice Skating: This is super fun and you can go when its warm if you go to an indoor rink!

iRock ($10):

This has been my friends and I favorite activity this winter. iRock is an indoor rock climbing wall, its only $10 for all day climbing. Definitely recommend this one and think its worth the money!

Dart Side ($10):

I recently went here for a date and it was so fun! It is basically a giant Nerf war! Bring your inner 10 year old boy and have a blast!

Antelope Island ($10 per car):

Camp, have a campfire, take pictures or just explore!

Crystal hot springs ($9):

Located in Honeyville, Utah it can be a bit of a drive but if you plan to stay for more than a few hours it is so worth it. Natural hot springs are pumped into pools and water slides for a fun outdoor pool that you can swim in even when its snowing!

Movie:

Movies are always playing! For a cheaper option look at matinees or kaysville theater!

Food trucks:

Especially in the summer it's easy to find food truck meet ups. They are super fun and there are a lot of new foods to try!

OVER $10

Jazz game:

Jazz games require a little more planning and money but they are so much fun! If you plan ahead and get tickets up high, it doesn't have to be super expensive!

Other sporting events:

Bees game, hockey, REAL, college teams, etc.

Aquarium ($15-20):

The Aquarium is on the more expensive side of these activities but it really is super impressive. They have so many exhibits, you really could spend hours there!

Flowrider ($20):

Flowrider is located right next to iRock in Ogden. This is another thing that we have not yet done, but want to do super soon. Be sure to read the website as they have a lot of rules but also a lot of deals for cheaper days and group rates!

Top Golf ($25-45, for a group):

This is another one that i have not yet done but will hopefully do soon. Since you pay by group this one requires a little planning but looks like so much fun!

These are all activities that i have done or friends have done and had so much fun! Make sure to do your research, check prices and requirements before doing activities.

Thanks so much for reading!!

xoxo,

Tylie Sue
