Meringue Recipe

I love to bake and one of my favorite treats to make is meringues. Meringues are crisp cookie like treats that have a chewy marshmallow texture in the middle. Meringues can be temperamental but with a few tips and tricks you can have a super easy and delicious treat! This post is a collaboration with the amazing Zen in the Kitchen! INGREDIENTS:

• 3 large egg whites

• 3/4 cup granulated sugar

• 1 tsp vanilla

• 1/2 tsp distilled white vinegar

STEP 1:

separate 3 egg whites into a bowl

I love to use this egg yolk separator from Zen in the Kitchen.

STEP 2:

Whisk egg whites in a stand mixer until stiff peaks form and the meringue does not slide out when bowl is turned upside down.

STEP 3:

Gradually add sugar while continuing to whisk the egg whites. Then add sugar and vinegar. Whip until you can rub the mixture between your fingers without feeling the sugar grit and it holds stiff and glossy peaks.

STEP 4:

Add a small amount of gel food coloring.

*liquid food coloring can affect the consistency of the meringue.

STEP 5:

Pipe meringue onto a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.

*Pipe meringues the same size for even baking. I like to make one pan of meringues about 2" and another pan about 1"

STEP 6:

Bake at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 90-120 minutes or until meringues remove from parchment paper easily and are not sticky.

*take them out before they start to brown

STEP 7:

Enjoy your delicious treat!
