5 of my favorite braided hairstyles!
Today I am talking about braids. Fishtail, dutch, french, pancaked, all of it! Braids are so versatile! You can wear them fancy or casual. I am going to show you a mix of both. These hairstyles do work best with long hair but can work with shorter hair it just might require more bobby pins and hairspray!
Style 1: Fishtail Braided Bangs
To begin this style, start with all hair down. Gather a section of hair along the part and forehead. Begin a dutch fishtail braid. Once you have braided far enough to reach the back of the head gently pull the edges to create a fuller look. If you want a messier look, pull it apart more until you get the desired look. Secure the end with a small elastic band and pin in the back. You can also tie all the hair up into a pony tail for a casual but interesting pony tail!
Style 2: Flower Half Up
Begin with hair down. Starting at the temple gather hair into a half up style and secure with small elastic band. Starting at the elastic band, braid hair all the way to the ends. Gently pancake or loosen one edge of the braid. Wrap the braid around itself in a circular motion with the pancaked side on the outside. Secure the hair with bobby pins, weaving them in and out of the braided flower to hide them best you can. For a more casual look loosen top and pull out some pieces in the front.
Style 3: Dutch Braided "Piggy Tails"
This style can be done with wet or dry hair. I prefer wet because when you take them out the next day you have beautiful beachy waves. To begin this style, part hair down the middle of the entire head. Secure one side of the hair and brush the other side straight back. Begin a tight dutch braid straight back. Repeat on both sides. For a sleek, put together look braid the hair all the way down to the very ends and spray with hairspray to tame flyaway hairs. For a messier look pancake or loosen the braid and pull out some pieces in the front.
Style 4: Milkmaid Braid Updo
Begin this style with your hair parted naturally. Part your hair roughly down the middle. Braid each side and pancake them slightly to make the braid fuller. Pin each braid across the top of the head. If you have longer hair like me you can pin one around the back and one across the top. For a softer look pull some pieces of hair out around the face to frame it. This style is great with wet hair because when it is taken out the next day you have beachy waves.
Style 5: Side Dutch Braid
Begin with hair parted fairly deep to one side. Begin a dutch braid down the side, gathering pieces from both sides. Once you reach the ear add the rest of the hair and braid normally. I love to pancake this braid because it creates a more full and effortless style. I also like to pull out some pieces to frame my face. If you have shorter hair you may need to secure some pieces in the back with bobby pins and hairspray.
I hope you loved these braided styles as much as I do!
